Read-Write-Web
Have you ever checked out Read-Write-Web? This is a great site to keep up with current technology. Although I wouldn't use Read-Write-Web with my students (because they're only first graders) I would use it as a resource for myself. I would use this site just to stay informed. Did you ever wonder what the point of a hashtag is?? My daughter is always saying "#cheer", "#school" and it makes me crazy! So... I checked out on Read-Write-Think and found out that it originated from a Google employee, who suggested that Twitter use hash tags as well. Twitter began using hashtags as a way of searching and the rest is history!

I too feel that many things would not be the best for my students, you have younger kiddos, and mine have a variety of disabilities. I also agree that it is good to just keep up with the times. It took me forever to understand the point of a hash tag... and last week found myself using it in conversation to add humor... and ALL of my students laughed. I was surprised that they understood it... when I struggled with it.

DeleteMy students and I had a fun time talking about hashtags during a class period once too! We were laughing so hard at some of the things people hashtag. And I also told them about Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake's skit where they were talking while hashtagging everything. That got the kids laughing too!

I was going to reference Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake as well!!! I was actually hash tagging that day while making the motion with my hands/fingers! I really need to credit JF and JT for providing me with a better understanding of "THE HASHTAG"
